JOIN OUR TEAM

Are you passionate about change, advocacy, or mental health? If yes, then volunteering with Active Minds UAlberta might be for you!

Being a part of Active Minds at University of Alberta is much more than joining a student group on campus or partaking in weekly meetings. Rather, volunteers with Active Minds are exposed to unique opportunities that allow them to take on a unique independent project they may have in mind, to further cultivate a personal interest, and to experience personal growth and satisfaction. A member of Active Minds UAlberta is one who will be given the opportunity to develop new and innovative ideas, or undertake a personal interest while working towards #makingmentalhealthmatter and #breakingthestigma.

HOW TO VOLUNTEER WITH US

Applications are usually accepted in early Fall (mid-September) and early Winter (mid-January) of each year. Applications are submitted online through the following online Active Minds Volunteer Application form

A list of FAQ's regarding the volunteer application process and roles are listed below. Please direct any further questions or inquiries you may have to our Volunteer Relations Committee, by emailing vrc.activeminds@gmail.com

WHAT DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS INCLUDE?

Every prospective applicant must submit a completed application form (done online). After submission, applications are reviewed on a rolling basis by our Volunteer Relations Committee. If you are deemed a good fit for our club, you will be contacted by VRC for more information on how you can register for the mandatory Active Minds training, and what you must do to keep good standing as a general member.

WHY IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS SO STRINGENT

Being part of Active Minds is more than "joining a club" or partaking in meetings. Members at all levels will have the ability to voice their opinions, put possible plans/ideas into action, and develop new innovative ideas that are geared towards making #mentalhealthmatter and #breakingthestigma. Therefore, an appropriate  application process is put in place to ensure members can meet the commitment and goals of Active Minds UAlberta

WHAT CAN I DO ONCE I'M ACCEPTED

Once part of the team, members may choose to take on an innovative idea/ small project that they are passionate about or personally interested in, that tie to conversing about mental health and reducing stigma. While there is no requirement that members take on an independent project, it is highly recommended, and Active Minds UAlberta prides itself in being one of a few organizations on campus that involve all members in all stages of project management. Individuals with unique ideas/ undertakings will be given preference in the application process and are encouraged to share these ideas during their application.

CAN I REAPPLY IF I WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL THE FIRST TIME

Absolutely! The goal of Active Minds UAlberta is not to "weed out" applicants. Rather, we try to find the best fit for both you and us. For this reason, applicants who wish to strengthen their application a second time around are definitely encouraged to apply. Your performance on your past application will have not negatively impact your new application in any way.

DOES ACTIVE MINDS RUN YEAR LONG?

Active Minds UAlberta remains in session for all terms of the school year. Briefly, in the summer, members get the opportunity to be involved in the planning phase of various ideas or goals. In the Fall and Winter terms, members are involved in execution of ideas and plans.
